Lonsdale Capital Partners is a London-based private equity fund investing in companies with enterprise values up to c. £75m across the U.K. and Ireland. Whilst Lonsdale has traditionally been a sector agnostic investor, over recent years, there has been an increased focus on healthcare and B2B services sectors. Lonsdale will consider both majority, the bulk of its investments to date have been for majority stakes, and growth/minority investments. We flex our approach to suit company and management needs.
We are seeking a new Investment Associate to join the team. Lonsdale has a flat organisational structure giving joiners the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of PE, learning and developing at a fast pace in a dynamic team. The core facets of the role include:
- Origination - initially likely to be centred around attending meetings with the wider investment team but in time, building your own relationships in the market and bringing in opportunities which is actively encouraged
- Deal execution - reviewing investment memorandums (IMs), financial modelling, managing certain diligence streams over time, preparing investment committee papers, general transaction support, etc.
- Portfolio management - reviewing Board Packs, attending Board meetings, assisting portfolio companies with certain tasks (e.g. M&A research and execution, budgeting)
- Fund administration (not the focus of the role but important to mention) - assisting with preparation of quarterly reports for investors, preparing presentation decks for prospective investors/companies, overseeing investment opportunities tracker (filing IMs, NDAs, etc.)
The culture is built around results and not face time so if you aren’t busy then you will not be expected to sit around at your desk. However, there will be busy periods as with any role and in PE they can be quite intense given the nature of transactions and owning fast growing companies.
The ideal candidate will likely come from one of the following backgrounds:
- Investment banking / corporate finance with at least three to four years’ experience
- Top eight accountancy – with one to two years' M&A experience post qualification
- Strategy consulting with exposure to private equity diligence assignments and three to four years’ experience
- Associate from another private equity fund looking for greater exposure across all aspects of the role
- Whilst experience in healthcare / B2B services is not an absolute requirement, it is desirable given Lonsdale’s current investment focus
The required skill set/attributes for this role:
- Passion for private equity and investing - we are a small team so require someone who has genuine interest in developing their knowledge and skill set as an investor
- Internally motivated - you will be working on tasks alongside the team but you should have a desire to think ahead of the curve to identify where you can add value and complete tasks to take the burden off other team members
- Structured and organised - across all functions, we are structured and organised in our approach and as you will be working with a number of team members at any one time, it is important you take the same approach
- Strong attention to detail - again due to the small team, we need someone who will get the basics right and takes pride in doing so
- Accountable - take ownership of your tasks and if you make a mistake, maturity to communicate this openly
- Ability to contribute constructively during meetings (internal investment committee meetings, board meetings and company meetings)
- Investor mindset - ability to think like an investor and not an advisor, review investment materials and provide views on merits and challenges of investment opportunities
- Understanding of and ability to build from scratch, fully integrated operating models (P&L, BS and CF) and LBO models
