General Partner - Founding Team - Venture Capital (London, UK)
We are establishing a new venture capital firm in London, focused on backing visionary founders building the future of fintech, regtech, climatech, edtech, AI, future of work, healthtech, biotech, media and education. We will provide Seed, Series A and Series B funding to early-stage and high-growth companies across the UK and Europe, leveraging a hands-on approach and a strong network of industry experts to accelerate growth. Role Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced General Partner to join our founding team. As a General Partner, you will be instrumental in building the firm, defining our investment strategy, sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, leading deal execution, and actively supporting portfolio companies. This is a unique opportunity to shape the vision and direction of a new venture capital firm and to build a lasting legacy in the European startup ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Firm Building & Strategy:
- Collaborate with the founding team to define the firm's investment thesis, target sectors, and geographic focus.
- Contribute to the development of the firm's brand, values, and operating principles.
- Assist in establishing the firm's infrastructure, including legal, compliance, and administrative processes.
- Participate in fundraising activities and building relationships with potential limited partners (LPs).
- Sourcing and Deal Flow:
- Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with promising founders, entrepreneurs, and key players within the fintech, regtech, climatech, edtech, AI, future of work, healthtech, biotech, media and education ecosystem.
- Build and maintain a strong network of industry experts, advisors, and potential co-investors.
- Attend industry events, conferences, and competitions to stay abreast of emerging trends and identify potential investment opportunities.
- Due Diligence and Investment Analysis:
- Lead the full lifecycle of the investment process, including conducting in-depth market research, competitive analysis, and financial modeling.
- Evaluate potential investment opportunities based on a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, competitive landscape, and team capabilities.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on target companies, including technical, commercial, and legal aspects.
- Present investment recommendations to the investment committee and actively participate in the decision-making process.
- Deal Execution:
- Lead negotiations with founders and their legal teams to secure favorable investment terms.
- Manage the legal documentation process and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Portfolio Management:
- Actively support portfolio companies by providing strategic guidance, operational expertise, and access to our network of resources.
- Serve on the boards of directors for select portfolio companies.
- Monitor portfolio company performance, identify potential challenges, and proactively implement solutions.
- Work closely with portfolio company management teams to develop and execute their strategic plans.
- Team Building & Mentorship:
- As the firm grows, mentor and guide junior members of the investment team, fostering a culture of learning and development.
- Contribute to a collaborative and positive work environment.
Qualifications:
- Entrepreneurial Mindset: Essential. Experience building something from scratch (business, product, community, etc.) is highly valued.
- Proven track record of successful venture capital investing, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role at a reputable venture capital firm or private equity firm.
- Deep understanding of the fintech, regtech, climatech, edtech, AI, future of work, healthtech, biotech, media and education landscape and a passion for investing in innovative companies.
- Strong network of contacts within the European startup ecosystem.
- Exceptional financial modeling, analytical, and due diligence skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in leading complex deal negotiations.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with founders, industry experts, and other stakeholders.
- Experience serving on boards of directors and providing strategic guidance to portfolio companies.
- MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business, technology).
- Strong academic background from a top-tier university.
- A high degree of self-motivation, initiative, and ownership.
- Legally authorized to work in the UK.
