I am seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chief of Staff to join a dynamic Public Law (PIPL) team at a leading UK law firm. This is a pivotal role within the Commercial Services Group, offering you the opportunity to collaborate with partners and senior leaders, driving strategic initiatives and optimising team performance.
The team works for clients in the public and private sectors, acting on behalf of high-profile governmental inquiries, including sensitive matters of national security or public interest.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Office of the RE: Acting as a trusted advisor and representative of the Head of PIPL/Senior Partner (the Responsible Executive, 'RE'), you will manage their office and oversee the flow of information across various platforms. This includes gatekeeping communications, monitoring progress on strategic initiatives, and facilitating effective decision-making within the PIPL leadership team.
- Drive Operational Excellence: In partnership with the Operations and Strategy Manager (OSM), you will analyse and enhance the organisational structure, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to address knowledge and skills gaps. You will also collaborate with the OSM to streamline processes and maximise team productivity.
- Facilitate Communication and Collaboration: You will serve as a central point of contact for staff, executives, and senior leaders, ensuring seamless communication regarding firm-wide matters, employee well-being initiatives, project updates, and strategic planning.
- Champion Employee Well-being: You will play a key role in fostering a positive and supportive work environment by [specific examples, e.g., contributing to employee well-being initiatives, acting as a point of contact for employee concerns, promoting work-life balance]. You will also work closely with the human resources department to coordinate resource acquisitions and address employee concerns.
- Oversee Daily Operations: Collaborating with the RE, senior leaders, and department heads, you will oversee day-to-day operations and manage the executive office team. This includes administrative tasks such as calendar management, correspondence, file organisation, meeting coordination, and facilities scheduling.
- Build Strong Relationships: You will cultivate positive relationships across all levels of the organisation to enhance efficiency and responsiveness. You will also contribute to the development of new operational strategies in collaboration with the RE, OSM, and senior leadership.
- Provide Expert Guidance: As a subject-matter expert in [specific areas, e.g., public inquiry procedures, relevant legislation, key client industries], you will handle enquiries, develop action plans, and support the creation and dissemination of communications.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Extensive Experience: 10+ years of experience in a business management or executive role, ideally as a Chief of Staff to a C-Suite executive in a large corporate environment, non-departmental government body, or political office.
- Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to think creatively, solve problems effectively, and manage critical issues with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Operational Expertise: Deep understanding of business operations and procedures, with experience in organising and directing multiple teams and departments.
- Exceptional Leadership and Communication: Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, across both fee-earning and business services teams.
- Project Management Prowess: Highly organised and results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, plan and lead strategic initiatives, and deliver impactful outcomes.
- Collaboration and Relationship Building: Adept at building strong relationships, fostering collaboration, and navigating complex organisational dynamics.
- Analytical and Reporting Skills: Experience in data analysis, budget management, and project reporting, with a focus on clear and concise interdepartmental communication.
- Consulting experience: Experience in a consulting environment, with a focus on operations management and a proven track record of success in project coordination.
- Educational Background: A degree in business or a related field is preferred, or equivalent executive-level experience.
