Type: Permanent, Senior Technical Role
Role Overview
We are looking for a seasoned project controls professional to join a central Infrastructure PMO in an Associate Director capacity. This role offers a blend of technical leadership, governance oversight, and client engagement. You will lead a controls commission, driving reporting, performance insight, and process improvement - without necessarily carrying full director-level P&L responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and refine the PMO’s project controls frameworks including cost, schedule, risk, change, and governance.
- Own the design and generation of controls reporting: dashboards, forecasts, variance / scenario analysis.
- Act as a trusted controls advisor to internal delivery teams and clients, providing performance insight and commercial risk input.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement in controls tools, data integrity, and process maturity across projects.
- Facilitate control‑oriented forums: risk workshops, change boards, steering committees.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (planning, delivery, commercial) to align controls outputs with delivery objectives.
- Mentor and support junior/mid-level project controls practitioners, helping to build capability and standards.
Essential Experience & Skills:
- 7+ years experience in project controls, PMO, or large-capital infrastructure programmes.
- Strong technical expertise: cost control, schedule management (e.g. Primavera P6 or equivalent), risk, change control, governance.
- Proven ability to lead via influence (rather than direct headcount): drive change, improve reporting, and shape processes.
- Experienced with earned value management EVM and NEC contracts
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills: able to work with senior client and delivery leadership.
- Analytical, insight-driven mindset: capable of translating control data into actionable strategic recommendations.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
What’s On Offer
- Base salary: £80,000–£87,000
- Car allowance (details to be discussed)
- Performance bonus
- Private medical insurance (or equivalent benefits)
- Hybrid working (mix of office and remote)
- A high-impact role shaping how project controls operate across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects
- Influence over control frameworks and reporting maturity
- Opportunity to act as a senior technical lead and controls authority
Why This Role Matters
This Associate Director position is a powerful opportunity to shape the controls capability within a major PMO. You’ll be doing more than reporting - you’ll drive how controls are used to inform decisions, mitigate risk, and steer delivery. Your work will help deliver transparency and performance assurance for both clients and delivery teams.
