Summary:
The Head of PMO is a key member of the Delivery team responsible for devising and implementing
best-in-class project schedule, risk, budget and cost management policies and procedures for major
capital projects throughout their lifecycle. The role oversees all project controls workstreams relating to
major capital projects within the Company.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
PMO Policy and Procedures
- Devising best-in-class policies and procedures relating to project schedule, risk, budget and cost management
- Together with the Engineering department devising quality processes and procedures and overseeing implementation of the same
- Ensuring effective implementation of the PMO policies and procedures across all major capital projects
- Identifying and proposing for implementation appropriate systems and software to increase efficiency across the PMO activities
- Developing templates that can be used for ongoing PMO activities such as project risk register and budgets
- Overseeing implementation of the Stage Gate Policy
PMO
- Devising project schedules, risk registers and budgets throughout the project lifecycle • Managing project’s financial aspects to minimise forecast deviations against budgets • Ensuring contract management activity is accurately represented in forecasts and risk reports
- Managing project cost control activities
- Developing and implementing effective change control processes and procedures
- Devised own and/or reviewing and integrating delivery programmes, challenging assumptions, and monitoring progress
- Managing project schedules for actual progress, identifying key variances and recommending mitigating actions
- Identifying and managing risks, evidencing the same on risk registers and devising contingency provisions based on Monte Carlo analysis
- Ensuring compliance with applicable PMO processes and procedures
- Establishing relationships with contractors, JV partners and other project members ensuring effective project management
- Coordinating the necessary input from other disciplines (e.g. engineering, planning, consents etc.) into the overall scheduling, risk management and budgeting
- Implementing systems for and overseeing effective management of project documentation
- Preparing and presenting, where required, high quality project progress reports
- Once established, overseeing the PMO team and undertaking annual reviews, ensuring that subordinates are appropriately led using the Company values, and have Personal Development Plans in place
- Working with the People team on all other relevant human resource management aspects relating to the PMO team
- Input into bidding plans, procurement processes and contract negotiations
- Where applicable:
- Negotiating and managing on joint employer positions with project partners in relation to programmes, budgets and risk registers
- Actively leading and managing the relevant external project consultants

Education, Work Experience & Qualifications:
- A minimum 8-10 years of previous experience in procurement of contracts in the energy sector ranging from advisory services to small to medium-sized packages of work i.e. up to £5m in value
- A degree in procurement and/or supply chain management, quantity surveying, business or construction law
- MCIPS or MRICS qualified
- Experience in working in an environment governed by robust procurement systems
- Strong commercial understanding and contract management/negotiation skills
- Good understanding of the FIDIC and NEC standard forms of contract
- Good technical understanding of scopes and associated supply chains
