This Opportunity in One Sentence
We are looking for a commercially minded leader who can integrate, manage, oversee and grow a business following our acquisition of that business.
This Opportunity in One Minute
We acquire performing UK businesses. When we complete a new acquisition we deploy a Portfolio Director and support team to integrate, manage, oversee and grow that company. The Portfolio Director is the "on the ground" lead and will work with the existing management team to drive the business forward. This position reports directly to our CEO and will have P&L level responsibility. A successful Portfolio Director will become responsible for multiple companies. You will have a growth mindset, excellent management and leadership skills as well as an understanding of operational efficiency and all marketing and sales channels.
Who We Are
We are a privately owned investment company based in Christchurch, Dorset. We have a record of building multiple £10million+ startups from scratch across the last fifteen years.
We are building a portfolio of companies in the British Engineering and Manufacturing sector via the M&A model.
We buy profitable, performing companies with solid management teams and both current and forward going growth opportunities.
We then work in tandem with those teams to grow the companies and take them to the next level.
We value openness, bravery, and a drive to do the right thing (especially when it's hard) - above all we value ownership and only work with people who take responsibility for what they do.
We work fast, work smart and fail quickly to make big things happen with small teams of people, who are quickly rewarded if they can achieve success for us. (It’s worth noting that in the past, people who have started in roles like this one have gone on to be shareholders of £multi-million companies).
About The Role
Our Portfolio Directors "own" portfolio companies.
A Portfolio Director has a small team of Portfolio Associates.
You will be given a profitable, established company that we have recently acquired.
Your role will include:
- Integrate that company into our group (mission, values, processes)
- Establish very strong relationships with the existing management team
- Quickly gain a very high level of understanding of all business activities and processes
- Ensure that we have control of all key business partners and relationships
- Work with our board to set and execute ambitious growth plans.
- Manage P&L performance, delivering improvements/change through the company's management team.
In addition, we expect Portfolio Directors to nurture and develop portfolio associates - who typically want to grow into Portfolio Directors themselves.
Travel - This role is based out of our Christchurch Office. However, travel to our UK companies will be a significant part of the role.
Who You Are
You will have experience leading teams, growing companies and solving problems. You will be comfortable in both the board room and on the factory floor.
You will have a proven track record of "moving the needle" and actually be able to point to significant business growth that you have delivered personally.
You will be ambitious - a best in class communicator (of both the easy messages and the hard ones)
People will follow you - and you will have a history of getting people to buy-in.
You will seek out problems to solve and be someone who inherently knows that everything/anything is solvable.
We want someone who can identify and nurture talent - and push a team forward with a sense of mission and purpose.
You will have experience growing and scaling companies, ideally in engineering and manufacturing, but equivalent experience in any other sector is also acceptable.
Overall, we see this being an excellent opportunity for a high performer who either has experience leading a business, or craves an opportunity to step up to that level.
